Guns 'N Fucking Roses exhibition: Call for Submissions

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
GNFR: Guns 'N F***ing Roses

GNFR: Guns 'N F***ing Roses is the first, important contemporary art exhibition that brings homage to one of the greatest hard rock bands of all times: Guns ‘N Roses.

Curated by Jan Van Woensel, an international curator widely known for his itinerant group exhibition Bad Moon Rising (San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; Saint Louis, MO; Brussels, Belgium; Oslo, Norway; and London, UK), and numerous projects in collaboration with artist, musician, writer, poet, and publisher Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), GNFR is the first edition of his international, itinerant art exhibition.

GNFR is not just another exhibition that illustrates the obvious relation between art and music. Instead, GNFR holds the middle between an art exhibition and a gloomy teenager’s bedroom. Within this setting, GNFR exposes both the worldwide success and tragic breakdown of the (original) band, and displays a selection of Guns ‘N Roses inspired contemporary artworks amidst an audiovisual chaos of documentary videos, interviews, fan videos, home made recordings of cover bands, amateur artworks, paraphernalia, artifacts and much more…

! CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS !

Artists interested in participating in the exhibition, please read:

We're especially looking for video artworks, but we will consider showing (some) paintings, drawings, prints, graphic designs (t-shirts, tote-bags, etc...) and illustration art as well. All submissions have to have a clear, and original visual or conceptual relation to Guns 'N Roses! Selection for participation is done by the curator exclusively.

Deadline for submissions: November 10th, 2011. Send the curator a couple of low resolution images of your artwork, or a detailed, short description of the work you want to make for this exhibition, along with your biography and resumé.

We are also looking for (home made) videos of Guns 'N Roses cover bands, videos of Axl Rose and Slash imitators, Guns 'N Roses news clippings, photos that appeared in the press and tabloid press, Guns' N Roses t-shirts and other apparel, and a whole lot of real fan art! Please submit!

Join this group on Facebook to receive news and updates and preview contributions from already selected artists.

GNFR: Guns 'N F***ing Roses will open on December 8th, 2011 in Monty Art Space in Antwerp, Belgium. The exhibition will be proposed to different venues in Europe and the USA afterwards, to allow the show to travel to Guns 'N Roses fans across the world.

Monty Art Space - Antwerp, Belgium - December 2011

GNFR (“Guns ’N Fucking Roses”) is probably the first exhibition to bring homage to one of the greatest hard rock bands of all times: Guns ‘N Roses.

Curated by Jan Van Woensel, an international curator widely known for his itinerant group exhibition Bad Moon Rising (San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; Saint Louis, MO; Brussels, Belgium; Oslo, Norway), and numerous projects in collaboration with artist, musician, writer, poet, and publisher Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), GNFR is a project in preparation of the curator’s upcoming, ambitious Axl Rose exhibition (TBA).

GNFR is not just another exhibition that illustrates the obvious relationship between art and music. Instead, GNFR keeps the middle between an art exhibition and a gloomy teenager’s bedroom. Within this setting, GNFR exposes both the worldwide success and tragic breakdown of the band, and displays a selection of Guns ‘N Roses inspired contemporary artworks amidst an audiovisual chaos of documentary videos, interviews, fan videos, home made recordings of cover bands, amateur artworks, paraphernalia, artifacts and much more…
